New Bikes Under 2 Lakh:

The ₹ 2 lakh bracket is a good budget to have, especially if you are looking to upgrade from a beginner's bike or even to have a more powerful, more involving ride. Whether you're looking for pure performance, practicality or a bike that doubles up as a daily ride and take on touring duties, there are several bikes which offer different levels of performance and personality. Here's a list of motorcycles which meet these requirements.

Best Bikes Under ₹ 2 Lakh

1. KTM Duke 200
The KTM 200 Duke is ₹ 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it comes with a newly introduced anti-lock brakes sourced from Bosch. The non-ABS variant of the KTM 200 Duke will also continue to be available for now, priced at ₹ 1.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The KTM 200 Duke continues to come with the same 199.5 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which is now BS-IV compliant. There is no change in power output and the motor continues to make 24.6 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm, while mated to a 6-speed gearbox. When KTM introduced the 2017 model year, the bike was 5 kg heavier.
2. Royal Enfield Classic 350

This list begins with the most popular and highest selling Royal Enfield motorcycle – the Royal Enfield Classic 350. With classic ‘60s styling, yet with some added chrome and design elements which differentiate it from the other 350cc Royal Enfield bikes, the RE Classic 350 gets redesigned fenders, new taillight section, optional upswept exhaust and a split seat with a sprung rider's seat. Powered by a 346cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 offers a bike for city use as well as the occasional long distance ride. With 19.8bhp on tap and 28Nm of torque available, the RE Classic 350 isn't exactly the performance bike, but retro looks, decent fuel economy and great ride quality make it a popular choice.

3. KTM RC 200

The KTM RC 200 offers a full-faired supersport at a budget. Powered by the 200cc single-cylinder engine of the 200 Duke, the RC 200 offers superb handling and the engine loves being revved and needs to be kept at high rpms to extract maximum performance. The short ratio six-speed transmission means you can quickly shift through the gears while riding in traffic and settle into an easy and comfortable pace in top gear. To get some juice from the free-revving engine, you may need to downshift a few gears and rev the engine, but it rewards you with an entertaining performance. Great for city riding, and as a beginner's track machine, the RC 200 offers a great package that is difficult to resist, although the aggressive riding position may not be very comfortable for extended use.

4. Honda CBR250R

The Honda CBR250R is one of the most affordable 250cc motorcycles on sale and continues to remain a favourite with its friendly ergonomics and comfortable riding position. A fully faired bike, the CBR250R is perfect for the daily commute or even for touring. In fact, the Honda CBR250R has become one of the most favourite touring bikes in India. Powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine which makes 26bhp and 22.9Nm of torque, the CBR250R doesn't really have crackling performance, but it's got enough power for the experienced rider and new riders will not find the bike very intimidating either. Power delivery is seamless and both ABS and non-ABS variants are available on sale.

5. Bajaj Pulsar RS 200

The Bajaj RS 200 offers an affordable performance bike with a strong top end; the engine begs to be revved and the Pulsar RS 200 offers a level of performance that is immediately likeable. Based on the KTM 200 Duke's engine, the RS 200 makes 24.4bhp at 9,750rpm and 18.6Nm at 8,000rpm. For spirited riding, and high speed cruising, the Pulsar RS 200 ticks all the right boxes as an affordable performance bike. The only drawback is the design; although the RS 200 may appeal to many, overall the fairing design, projector headlamps, cuts and creases on the bodywork and even the graphics tend to go a bit overboard. That said, the RS 200 still is a very good choice in the budget performance market.

6. Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350

If you're in the market for a Royal Enfield, you're into touring and you need some extra power from the engine than the 350cc Royal Enfield engine, then the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 could be the bike you need. The Thunderbird 500 has trademark cruiser styling, large 20-litre fuel tank for increased range, a comfortable seat and wide, raised handlebar for long hours in the saddle. The bike is powered by a 499cc, single-cylinder air-cooled, fuel injected engine which makes 27.2bhp power at 5250rpm and 41.3Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Ideal for riders who ride on the highway often, the Thunderbird 500's oodles of torque helps climb high mountains, even with a pillion on board and offers a decent cruising speed, higher than the 350s. At 195kg kerb weight, the bike isn't very light and doesn't exactly offer crackling performance, if that's what one is looking for.

7. Royal Enfield Himalayan

The third Royal Enfield on this list is the Royal Enfield Himalayan – purpose-built for adventure with design and performance to cruise highways and explore the back of beyond. Looks are subjective and to us, the Royal Enfield Himalayan isn't what could be called stylish or particularly good looking. But what it offers is ‘built for the job' looks and ‘go anywhere' personality. The new 411cc engine is less powerful than the 500cc Royal Enfield engine, making 24.4bhp power and 32Nm of torque. Long travel suspension, high ground clearance and monoshock rear suspension (the first for any Royal Enfield) gives the Himalayan tremendous versatility to take on any kind of terrain. What it lacks is actual high speed cruising ability. It does display a speedo indicated top speed of over 130km/h, but the engine feels stressed out and the vibrations start creeping in at high revs. But where the tarmac ends, the Himalayan offers the perfect bike to take on broken roads and rocky terrain.

Yamaha XSR155

R15-Based Yamaha XSR155 Breaks Cover In Thailand

The Yamaha XSR155 is a retro-styled motorcycle based on the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 that has been launched in Thailand and we would like to see it make its way to India too.

Keeping up with the popularity of retro motorcycles, Yamaha Motor has introduced the new XSR155 in Thailand. The new Yamaha XSR 155 is a retro-styled offering based on the YZF-R15 V3.0 and shares the same underpinnings as the latter. The design language though is completely new, bringing a retro touch to the Japanese bike maker's 155 cc line-up and is an extremely likeable addition to the range. Mechanically, the XSR155 carries over the Deltabox frame and other cycle parts and also the powertrain.

The styling and design though gives it a completely new look despite the sporty underpinnings. The design language is borrowed from the XSR900 and comes with the distinctive round LED headlamp, followed by the teardrop fuel tank and tan coloured ribbed single seat. The side panels covering the frame add a muscular touch to the motorcycle, while the circular LED taillight certainly stands out. The changes to the XSR155 also include a raised handlebar for a more comfortable riding position, while the wheelbase too is narrower by 5 mm over the R15. The ground clearance is also higher at 170 mm, while the XSR is heavier than the MT-15 by a kilogram at 134 kg (kerb), with the additions of an engine cowl and a heat shield on the exhaust.

Under the retro visuals, the Yamaha XSR155 uses the same
Engine capacity: 155 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4-valve engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. On the Thai-spec model,
Power: 19 bhp at 10,000 rpm
Peak:  14.7 Nm of peak torque at 8500 rpm.
The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and gets a slipper and assist clutch. Suspension duties are handled by USD forks up front and a monoshock unit at the rear, while braking power comes from disc brakes at either end with ABS as standard. An LCD unit is offered for the instrument cluster.
It is unclear if the Yamaha XSR155 will make its way to India. However, with the sheer popularity of retro motorcycles, Yamaha Motor should consider bringing the model here. More so, since the R15 V3.0 is manufactured in the country along with the MT-15, which makes it quite a viable option for the Indian market. The XSR155 is priced at 91,500 Baht (approx. ₹ 2.10 lakh), but local production should keep the prices around ₹ 1.40-1.50 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.

Mclaren Announces New Ultimate Series Supercar; Will Be Its Lightest Ever

The production of this car is limited to 399 units but the roadster will be different both the McLaren Senna and the Speedtail

The ultimate series model will make its debut in late 2020

Mclaren announced an all-new ultimate series supercar during the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The yet-named model is a two- seat, open cockpit roadster that will be the latest offering in McLaren's range-topping Ultimate series lineage of supercars that includes the P1TM, Senna and Speedtail. The production of this car is limited to 399 units but the roadster will be different both the McLaren Senna; whose focus is on being the ultimate road-legal track car, and the Speedtail's high-speed aerodynamic efficiency by offering the purest distillation of road-focused driving pleasure and an unrivalled sense of driver connection with the surrounding environment.
The new car gets classical roadster proportions, elegant sweeping lines and low-profile dihedral doors. While designed more for the road than the track, the new model will utilise McLaren's carbon fibre construction making it the lightest car ever produced by McLaren Automotive and will be powered by a version of the twin-turbocharged V8 engine currently employed in the Senna.
Mike Flewitt, CEO, McLaren Automotive said, "At McLaren Automotive we are consistently pushing the boundaries to deliver the purest and most engaging driving experience whether for the road or track. Our two current Ultimate Series cars, the Senna and Speedtail, offer unique and distinct driving experiences. Now this new addition to the Ultimate Series, an open-cockpit roadster, will take road-focused driving pleasure to new levels."
The ultimate series model will make its debut in late 2020 and will be priced between the Senna and the Speedtail.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Mini

Maruti Suzuki To Bring The Jimny Mini SUV To India; Likely Rebadged as Gypsy

Suzuki has finally green-lighted the Jimny for India. The car could be rebadged as Gypsy to cash in on erstwhile model's immense popularity and cult following.

Right from the time the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny made its long-delayed and highly anticipated global debut in late 2018, there has been a clamour from people for it to be brought to India. After consistently denying that it will bring the Jimny to us, Maruti Suzuki has finally relented. A report in Japanese press confirms what we have been suspecting all along - that the all new Suzuki Jimny will launch in India before the year is up. The reigning 2019 World Urban Car of the Year may be rebadged Gypsy for India - since that model has had a cult following in urban and rural India. But the Jimny name has also been catapulted to stardom in India over the past few months so the jury is out on whether we get one name or the other.

The larger reason for a possible rebranding is that the car we get is unlikely to be the exactly the same as the current global favourite. While the car we get will be based on the same platform, will share powertrain, transmission and components with the global Jimny Sierra, it will be bigger. The new Maruti Suzuki Gypsy/Jimny will be sold through the Nexa retail channel and will have a premium positioning. This will help separate it from sibling Vitara Brezza, which will continue to sell through the Maruti Suzuki Arena retail channel

The Suzuki Jimny is likely to be rebadged as Gypsy when it comes to India
Think of the correlation between the Swift and the Ignis to better understand the parallel positioning. The likely idea at Maruti Suzuki is to take on the Hyundai Creta segment by offering two distinct options to buyers. At the higher end will be the larger, practical, and roomy new XL6 - which would also work as a chauffeured ride. And the option for those seeking a sporty, individual choice will be the Gypsy/Jimny. The car will carry a relatively high local content and so expect pricing to be relatively aggressive - higher than the Vitara Brezza, but likely lower than and at par with the XL6 depending on the variant in question. Some sources have told carandbike that the 4WD may not be offered from the start either, but will be launched within 6 months of the car making its Indian debut.

Sources have told carandbike that the Jimny 4WD will not make it to India
So how will the car be different to the global Suzuki Jimny? India will get a long wheelbase version of the Jimny Sierra - already a wider body version for international markets. The Suzuki Jimny Sierra is a 3-door car, and which is why the version that is being developed specially for this market will be a 5-door. Sources have shared with carandbike that the car will not be a lot longer than the Jimny Sierra's 3645 mm - so that it stays under four metres and retains the small car tax benefits. The new model will target two segments of buyers - the hardcore off-roader (with a soft-top 4WD variant) and the urban user (with optional 4WD and a 5-door hard top). Globally the car sports the AllGrip Pro part time 4WD system with a low range transfer gear as standard. The new Maruti Suzuki Gypsy/Jimny will also use the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that goes into the Ciaz, Ertiga and upcoming XL6 crossover, The new car will offer a 5-Speed manual transmission as standard, with the option of a 4-Speed torque convertor automatic on a few of the top-end variants. The automatic is the same gearbox we see on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz too. The company may also introduce the Gypsy/Jimny in India with the SHVS or mild hybrid system as standard - though this remains unconfirmed.
The Maruti Suzuki version of the Jimny will be manufactured at the Suzuki plant in Gujarat and will also be geared towards exports. That is because this larger version of the Jimny Sierra will be made exclusively in India, and Suzuki anticipates some demand from other markets too. The larger focus will remain on India though. carandbike is the first and only Indian media to have driven and tested.
